Biography:
Sé Morrisson is an Ancient Mediterranean Studies master’s student at Penn State University. They obtained BAs in CAMS, Anthropology, History, and African Studies, along with a minor in Arabic and certificates in Museum Studies and International Studies, from Penn State; they have excavated in China and Romania and have experience working in curation and repatriation. Their areas of interest include the ways in which specialized communities in multicultural coastal cities responded to their diverse socioeconomic and political environments—especially in the context of imperial expansion, commercial exchange, and demographic change—and how those responses are reflected in material culture. Their research has focused on syncretism and the critical analysis of potential political, economic, and social motivations for changing religious expression. They are also interested in archaeological ethics and law, repatriation, and the ways in which museum rhetoric shapes contemporary reception and understanding of ancient history.
