John Kuehne earned his bachelor’s degree in CAMS in 2004 followed by certificates in intensive Latin and classical language from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively. In 2006, he earned a master’s degree in archaeological materials from the United Kingdom’s Sheffield University, followed by a juris doctorate from Drexel University in 2012. Drexel Magazine named John to its “40 under 40” list for being one of the university’s “most innovative, impressive, and inspiring young
alumni.”
Today, John is Managing Director of Counsel & Governance for New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA). In this role, he has supported the creation of 10 strategic innovation centers across New Jersey and helped found the first-of-its-kind New Jersey Green Bank. He was also tasked with leading the legal and commercial efforts for the New Jersey Wind Port project – the nation’s first purpose-built offshore wind marshaling and manufacturing port. Before coming to the NJEDA, John served as a New Jersey deputy attorney general supporting the state’s climate resiliency efforts, drafting and defending some of the earliest and most stringent PFAS regulations in the country, and was lead counsel for all archaeological and historic sites listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places.
John taught master’s courses on nonprofit governance and environmental law and policy as an adjunct faculty member at Drexel University for over a decade. John was the recipient of the 2023 CAMS Outstanding Alum award. He considers his participation in Penn State’s Athens study abroad program and its archaeological excavation at Mendes, Egypt as transformative experiences in his early career.
